Digital Template Listing (Notion Marketplace · Gumroad)¶
List and sell digital templates (Notion templates, planners, dashboards, spreadsheets, kits) on Notion Marketplace and Gumroad, in three levels (1 publish a free template, 2 sell a paid one, 3 grow with bundles, Discover and affiliates), with current fees, the Notion paid-seller waitlist, Gumroad Discover eligibility, how to deliver a Notion template safely, and the guideline mistakes that get templates rejected. Use when publishing or selling a Notion template or another digital download, choosing between Notion Marketplace and Gumroad, or when someone asks "how do I sell Notion templates", "list my template on Notion Marketplace", "Gumroad listing", or "Gumroad Discover".
Publish a free version where Notion users browse, sell the full version where checkout is easy, and let the free one feed the paid one.
Goal¶
Get a template in front of people who are already searching for templates, and sell it without tax headaches or leaked copies.
When to use¶
- A Notion template (or planner, dashboard, spreadsheet, kit) is ready to share or sell.
- You're choosing between Notion Marketplace and Gumroad, or want to use both.
- Not for: apps or plugins → listing-dev-plugin, listing-app-store.
Inputs¶
- A finished template in a clean workspace, with a "Start here" page (how to use it in 3–5 steps).
- A cover image, 3–6 screenshots of real views, and optionally a walkthrough video of 60 seconds or less.

Where to list¶
| Notion Marketplace | Gumroad | |
|---|---|---|
| Free templates | ✅ Anyone can publish (after review) | ✅ $0+ / pay-what-you-want |
| Paid templates | Join the waitlist, get approved (can take months), onboard with Stripe (only in Stripe-supported countries). Others can list paid templates that link to an external checkout | ✅ Immediately |
| Fee | 8% + $0.40 per sale, +1% FX fee outside the US | 10% + $0.50 per direct sale · 30% on sales that come through Gumroad Discover |
| Tax | Handled via Notion/Stripe | Merchant of record since 1 Jan 2025: Gumroad collects and remits sales tax/VAT |
| Review | Yes, usually a few business days | No listing review (risk review before Discover) |
| Audience | People browsing notion.com/templates | Your own traffic, plus Discover once eligible |
| Notes | USD pricing only. 14-day refunds remove the buyer's copies | Delivery via a post-purchase page or file |
Fees change, so confirm them on Notion's selling guide and Gumroad pricing before you price.
Steps¶
Level 1: Publish a free template (fastest way to get seen)¶
- Make a free version (30 min) that's genuinely useful on its own: the core system, not a crippled demo.
- Share it for duplication in Notion (Share → Publish → allow duplicate as template) and test the duplicate link in a second account.
- Set up your creator profile in Notion (photo, bio, links), then submit to Notion Marketplace: name, link, category, language, screenshots, optional video.
- Write the listing (20 min): a name with the search phrase ("Freelance CRM – Notion Template"), a one-line outcome, who it's for, what's inside (views and databases), and how to start.
- Follow the guidelines (below) so it isn't rejected.
Level 2: Sell the paid version¶
- Gumroad first (no waitlist): create a product, add the cover, thumbnail and description, and set the price (or pay-what-you-want with a suggested price).
- Deliver safely: put the Notion duplicate link only in the post-purchase content, never on the public page. Add a "Start here" guide and your support email.
- Apply to sell on Notion Marketplace (waitlist → approval → Stripe). While you wait, list the paid template on Notion with an external checkout link to Gumroad, if the guidelines allow it for your region.
- Connect free → paid: the free template's "Start here" page links to the full version (one line, not an ad wall).
- Price it → monetization-pricing-strategy. Templates often sell well as a one-time purchase with free updates.
Level 3: Grow¶
- Gumroad Discover: becomes available once your account has payout details, has passed a threshold of genuine sales and the risk review, and the product has a category, tags and ratings enabled. Discover sales cost 30%, but the buyers are new.
- Bundles: 3 templates for the price of 2, via Gumroad bundles or versions.
- Affiliates: Gumroad's affiliate feature lets creators and newsletters earn a cut for promoting your template.
- Updates as marketing: email buyers when you add features, which brings reviews and word of mouth.
- More channels: r/Notion and template roundups (read the self-promotion rules), a 30-second template tour on TikTok/Shorts → launch-quick-download-wins.
Guideline mistakes that get Notion templates rejected¶
- Duplicates or near-copies of your own or others' templates ("flooding" the marketplace is prohibited).
- Low effort: a messy layout, no instructions, or outdated Notion features.
- Implying Notion endorsement, or misusing Notion's name or logo (follow the brand and trademark guidelines).
- Ads, spam links, or screenshots and descriptions that don't match what's inside.
- Paid templates priced in anything other than USD, or listings used just to drive sales elsewhere.
Prompt (copy-paste)¶
Replace everything in {{ }}.
You are a digital-template launch expert for Notion Marketplace and Gumroad.
Template: {{what it does, who it's for, main databases/views}}
Free version idea: {{or "help me decide"}} Price idea: {{...}} My country: {{...}}
1. Split it into a FREE version (useful on its own) and a PAID version (clear reasons to upgrade).
2. Write both listings: name with the search phrase, one-line outcome, who it's for, "what's inside" bullets,
"how to start" (3 steps), 5 tags/categories, and captions for 5 screenshots.
3. Write the "Start here" page for buyers, including where the duplicate link goes and a support line.
4. Recommend where to list each version (Notion Marketplace, Gumroad, both) given my country's Stripe eligibility
for Notion paid sales, and show the take-home per sale at my price (Notion 8% + $0.40, +1% FX outside the US;
Gumroad 10% + $0.50 direct, 30% via Discover). Tell me to confirm current fees.
5. Check the listing against Notion's guidelines: no duplicates, no implied endorsement, USD pricing, accurate screenshots.
Example output¶
Illustrative example. Fictional template and prices, shown for format.
Freelance CRM: free version on Notion Marketplace (clients + projects databases). Paid "Pro" at $19 on Gumroad (adds invoices, a pipeline board, a monthly dashboard and a video guide).
| Sale of $19 | Fee | You keep (before payout fees) |
|---|---|---|
| Gumroad, direct link | 10% + $0.50 = $2.40 | $16.60 |
| Gumroad, via Discover | 30% = $5.70 | $13.30 |
| Notion Marketplace (US creator, once approved) | 8% + $0.40 = $1.92 | $17.08 |
The free template's "Start here" page ends with: "Need invoices and a pipeline? → Freelance CRM Pro."
Common mistakes¶
- Putting the duplicate link on the public page. Anyone can copy the paid template for free.
- No "Start here" page. Confused buyers ask for refunds.
- Waiting for Notion's paid approval to start selling. Sell on Gumroad meanwhile.
- A free version that's useless (everything locked). It gets no traction and no upgrades.
- Five near-identical templates. Notion treats it as flooding, and buyers see it as low quality.
