08 · Rules and risks

Quotes from Pinterest Community Guidelines unless noted. Checked 2026-10-13; read the page again before relying on it.

What counts as spam

Rule (Pinterest's words) What it means for you
"Don't create or save content that is repetitive, deceptive, or irrelevant in an attempt to make money." New image per pin; don't save the same pin again and again
"Don't link to websites that are unsafe, deceptive, untrustworthy, unoriginal…" Link to your own useful page, not a thin page made only to redirect
Links with "excessive or deceptive redirection" may be blocked No link shorteners chained to other shorteners; link straight to the page
"Don't use automation that hasn't been explicitly approved by Pinterest." Schedule natively or with a scheduler that uses Pinterest's official API; no bots, no browser scripts
Creating accounts "en masse" is prohibited One brand account. A personal account is fine; a farm is not
"Don't send repeated, unsolicited messages…" No mass DMs or comment spam
Generating "inauthentic traffic" is prohibited No buying saves, followers or clicks

AI images

Pinterest's policies cover "synthetically generated content" (same page). Since 2025 Pinterest adds an "AI modified" label to image pins it detects as AI-generated or edited, shown in close-up, with an appeal process (Medianama, May 2025, secondary). Use AI for backgrounds if you like; never present an AI image as a real customer, a real result or a real photo.

The guidelines don't single out affiliate links; the rule is that money-making must not be misleading. Say plainly when a page sells your own product (or earns a commission), and follow the FTC in the US.

Account suspended Spam signals: repeats, automation, many accounts Stop every automated tool; appeal via Pinterest Help; describe what you changed
