Step 3: ASO, one change at a time

Weeks 2โ€“3, then one change a month ยท โ† Step 2 ยท Next: Step 4

Goal

Stop guessing. ASO feels unpredictable when you change everything at once, because you can't tell which change moved the numbers. Change one element, wait, compare, keep or revert.

Full route: Playbook: ASO Optimization.

Steps

  • Keywords (once): aso-keyword-research. Save the chosen set in growth/keywords.md.
  • Pick the weakest element first, judged by your step 1 baseline:

    Symptom Fix first Skill
Few store page views Title, subtitle, keywords aso-title-subtitle-optimization
Views but few installs Screenshots, first frame aso-screenshot-strategy
Installs but low rating Review prompt, replies aso-review-and-rating-strategy
  • Ship one change and log it: date, what changed, the numbers on that date.

  • Wait at least 2โ€“4 weeks before judging (store indexing and weekly cycles need time), then compare with the same length period before the change.
  • Keep or revert, then pick the next element. One change a month is enough.

Done when

One logged change is live with a review date in your calendar.

Common mistakes

  • Updating keywords, title and screenshots in one release, then not knowing what worked.
  • Judging after 3 days.
  • Copying a competitor's keywords without checking whether you can rank for them.
