07 · Metrics and stop rules

Template: templates/weekly-numbers.md. 10 minutes every Sunday.

What to track (and where)

Metric Where Healthy direction
Answers written your thread tracker 10–20 a week
Answers removed thread tracker (check logged out) 0. One removal = read that subreddit's rules again
Karma in each target subreddit your profile / the subreddit's requirements Rising until you pass each subreddit's minimum
Posts, score, comments, removed? your profile, each post 1 a week; comments matter more than score
Landing visits utm_source=reddit GA4 / Plausible / your analytics, by utm_campaign=<subreddit> Which subreddit sends people
Trials / installs from Reddit store or checkout, same UTM Which subreddit sends buyers
Profile → X follows X follows over time, around post days Reddit readers checking you out

UTM pattern: utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=comment|post|profile&utm_campaign=<subreddit>.

Stop and fix rules

  • Two removals in one subreddit: stop posting there, re-read its rules and wiki page, message the moderators if unclear. Don't argue in the comments.
  • Answers get no upvotes for 2 weeks: you're answering late or too generally. Answer fresher threads, add steps and numbers.
  • Posts get upvotes but no visits: the post doesn't make clear who it's for, or there's no reason to click. Add the price, the platform and a real question; put the link where the rules allow.
  • Visits but no trials: the landing page doesn't match what Reddit readers were promised (price, privacy, native).
  • Builders' subreddits bring karma but no buyers: expected. Move the effort to buyers' subreddits once you pass their karma minimum.
  • 60 days, zero trials from Reddit while answers get upvoted: your product may not be what these readers search for. Check research-where-users-ask for better places.
